SYMPTOMS
  • Drops of bright red blood on bowel movement, toilet tissue or clothing; occasionally the bleeding is more profuse.
  • Tearing or burning pain in the anal region during bowel movement; dull ache may continue for several hours.
  • A small piece of skin at the end of the fissure (called a "sentinel pile") that may show outside the anus.
  • Hard or infrequent stools, usually from deliberately retaining painful bowel movements.
